About

The Ocean Image Bank, an initiative of the nonprofit The Ocean Agency, launched in 2020 to support the UN Ocean Decade. It grew out of the Coral Reef Image Bank, created in 2018 to support the International Year of the Reef.

Today, the Ocean Image Bank is a leading library of free ocean imagery, featuring thousands of high-quality ​i​magery generously contributed by more than 200 photographers from around the world. The imagery is available ​to download and ​use for non-commercial ​purposes, helping scientists, conservationists, educators, communicators, and the media tell stories about the ocean.

Since its launch, ​the Ocean Image Bank has been used by leading media outlets, nonprofits, research institutions, and organizations. ​From news stories and public campaigns to scientific reports and policy communications, the imagery helps bring ocean science and conservation to a wider audience and inspire action.
